Multimedia Filters

Multimedia Filters offers a high-performance filtration and a longer operating cycle. The advance design allows operation at high flow rates of 12 to 20 gpm per square foot of filter area. The filter distribution system controls the velocity and hydraulic balance within the filter protecting the media during high rate operation. The filter flow rate covers a broad range of flow rates, and multiple units can be easily coupled to accommodate any larger flow requirements by forcing the collected solids deep into the media.

The high rate down-flow sand filter achieves greater operational cycle time. Filtration continues until a pre-determined delta pressure or a preset time is achieved.

When this point is achieved a backwash sequence is initiated in which the direction of the flow is reversed and media bed is fluidized to facilitate the removal of the trapped particles. An Air/ Gas scour step is added to the backwash cycle to supply the necessary scrubbing action to break up the bed and detach the solids which have adhered to the media. In this sequence, the filter is brought off line and liquid level within the vessel is drained down to approximately 1 or 2 inches above the top of the media bed to prevent any loss of media during violent agitation of the air scour.
